Dharamshala town has an average elevation of 1,457 m (4,780 ft.) & it rises till 5000 m (16, 404 ft). Dharamshala has a monsoon influenced, humid subtropical climate. Summer starts in early April and peaks in May when temperatures can reach 36 °C (97 °F), and lasts until the start of June. From June to mid-September is the monsoon season, when up to 3,000 mm (120 inches) of rainfall can be experienced, making Dharamshala one of the wettest places in the state. Autumn is mild and lasts from October to the end of November. Snow and sleet are common during the winter in upper Dharamshala. Lower Dharamshala receives little frozen precipitation except hail. Winter is followed by a short, pleasant spring until April. Historically, the Dhauladhar mountains used to remain snow-covered all year long; however, in recent years they have been losing their snow blanket during dry spells.
State of Himachal Pradesh has an elevation of 232 m (761 ft.) to 6813 m (22, 352 ft.) There are various climates in different regions the climate varies from hot and sub-humid tropical (450–900 metres) in the southern low tracts, warm and temperate (900–1800 metres), cool and temperate (1800–2400 metres) and cold glacial and alpine (2400–4800 metres) in the northern and eastern high elevated mountain. By October, nights and mornings are very cold. Snowfall at elevations of nearly 3000 m is about 3km and lasts from December start to March end. About 4500 m, is perpetual snow.

In Dharamshala Snowfalls happens in upper regions starting from the month of December to March. On ground snow melts within one day to few weeks but Peaks are mostly covered with snow through out the year.
In the state of Himachal Pradesh Snow Falls happen in upper regions starting from the month of December to March. Peaks above 4500m are mostly covered throughout the year. Trans Himalayan region on ground snow remains for roughly three months of December , January, February depending upon weather.
